At Baldwin Home Inspection Services we test for radon and provide fast results using our own certified lab. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas found in soils, rock, and water throughout the United States. Radon is a threat to health because it tends to collect in homes, sometimes to very high concentrations. You cannot see, feel, smell, or taste radon. Testing the home is the only way to determine if radon is present, and if you and your family are at risk from radon.
Any home can have a radon problem, including new and older homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements. The EPA recommends radon testing whether you are buying or selling a home.
Our inspectors test water quality and identify any potential contaminants that could affect the health of the home's occupants. We will also provide recommendations on how to address water-quality issues if you move forward with the home purchase.
Well water testing:
If your home has a private well, our certified inspectors will collect water samples and have them analyzed in a lab to determine the water's makeup and safety for consumption. Our comprehensive testing includes an extended water profile, which checks for minerals, bacteria, lead, and radon in water.
If the home has a private well, water samples are taken and analyzed by a certified laboratory to determine if the water is potable or safe for consumption and to determine its makeup. The typical extended water profile performed for well water in Connecticut includes testing for:
Additional testing for other parameters such as uranium, arsenic, heavy metals and volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) can be ordered if there are any concerns.
In New York, the counties of Westchester and Dutchess require specific and more extensive testing that our Customer Service agent can review with you to determine the best solution for testing.
If a home is on a municipal water system and not serviced by a private well, it is recommended that testing for lead in the water be performed if the home was built prior to 1986. Lead was used in plumbing prior to 1986 and lead concentration may filter into the water.
